Tadpoles in Nursery




Children have been busy observing the tadpoles in Nursery this week.  Some children drew what they could see and lots of children enjoyed talking about the changes that are happening.  

Some children even had a go at taking the photographs this week.  Here is a fantastic shot of the tadpoles by one child in Nursery....

Day One The eggs have arrived!!

  Day One We have some very egg-citing news!   Yesterday the Nursery Class have had a very special delivery from a farm in Norfolk.  We had 5 eggs delivered to Nursery.  We are keeping them warm in an incubator and waiting to see if they will hatch.   We have started predicting what day the eggs will hatch.   What day do you think the first egg will hatch?   Come back and read the blog each day to see if you made a good guess!

Day 8 All five ducklings have arrived!

  Day 8 Over the weekend the last egg hatched.  Now we have five ducklings in Nursery.   The newest duckling is much smaller than the ones which hatched first.  Look at the difference in sizes in this picture! This shows how quickly the ducklings grow in the first few days. Today the ducks had their very first swimming lesson!  We put the ducklings in some water in the sink and they were able to swim straight away.  They enjoyed splashing in and out of the water.  Watch this video to see how much fun they were having.  After they had a swim the adults needed to dry the ducklings with a towel as their feathers are not yet waterproof.   Did you know.... Adult ducks have waterproof feathers.  Ducks have a preen gland near their tails and this makes an oil which ducks rub onto their feathers.  The oil stops the feathers becoming water-logged and helps keep them dry.

Egg-citing News February 2024

  Egg-citing News  We have some very egg-citing news to share with you.  After half term the Nursery Class will have a very special delivery from a farm in Norfolk.  We will have some real eggs delivered to Nursery.  We will keep them warm in an incubator and wait to see if they will hatch.   Facts about eggs: Did you know lots of animals lay eggs?   Can you name some?  Here are some pictures of animals which lay or hatch out from eggs.     Which animal do you think will hatc h from the Nursery eggs? Challenge:  If you would like to draw an animal which lays eggs or hatches out from an egg, give the pictures to your class teacher and some of them can be added to the blog!
