Day 8 & 9 Ducking Swimming

 Day 8 & 9

 The ducklings have enjoyed swimming over the past few days. 
 They knew how to swim as soon as they were put into the water.  We have looked closely at the ducklings webbed feet as they help them to swim.  
The ducklings do not have any natural oils on their feathers yet so the teachers had to dry them carefully with a towel when they had finished swimming!!

  Duckling Diary- Day 4 Learning to eat and drink! Today we moved the last two ducklings from the incubator to the cage.  Now all of the eggs have hatched and we have 5 ducklings in the cage.   Today the Nursery children enjoyed holding the ducklings on their laps and stroking them very carefully.   We watched the ducklings eating and drinking for the first time.  The teachers helped the first duckling to eat and drink by moving around the food and splashing the water.  Once this duckling had learnt what to do, the other ducklings copied! The ducklings are only 1 day old and they can eat and drink by themselves.  I wonder what you were like when you were a baby?  Ask your parents what you were like as a 1 day old baby!

Day One and Two of the egg diaries!

  Day One and Two We have some very egg-citing news!   Yesterday the Nursery Class had a very special delivery from a farm in Norfolk.  We had 5 eggs delivered.  We are keeping them warm in an incubator and waiting to see if they will hatch.   We have started predicting what will hatch out of the eggs.   What do you will hatch out from these eggs? Day 5 Duck Diaries

Day 5 Handling the ducklings Children in Nursery enjoyed learning to carefully handle the ducklings this week.  The children are learning lots about how to care for living things and have been using gentle hands and quiet voices when near the ducklings. Children in Reception also had a chance to see the ducklings when they came to their classroom to visit! This weekend the ducklings will have a visit to a teacher's house where they will be looked after until Monday morning. You might be surprised at how much they grow in a few days!  Come back next week for more pictures and updates.
